We Treat Sports Injuries!

Around 1.5 million student-athletes suffer from sports-related injuries every year and are taken to various emergency and urgent care departments in the US. The sport that does the most damage to those playing it, though, is often football. People who play football risk more than just shoulder and knee injuries that are common in most sports. The forceful physical contact that is used in football often puts the players at risk of getting head injuries, such as concussions. About 20% of all high school football players suffer from concussions during their time playing in school, and this number jumps to almost 50% among college athletes.

Concussions occur when a person’s head is hit or jolted too violently. This movement causes the brain to move around too much within the skull, and this movement is what causes the injury to the brain. While not every person suffers from the same symptoms of a concussion, a few common ones are fainting, vomiting, spotted vision, and sudden clumsiness. Of course, the most effective way to prevent an athlete from suffering a head injury while playing would be for them to properly wear all protective gear, but even this protective gear isn’t 100% effective.

It’s best to exercise caution when participating in these potentially damaging sports. If your child suffers from a head injury, or other sports-related injuries, bring them to HealthCARE Express. Our providers will conduct exams to determine what is wrong, and will send your injured athletes back to our state of the art imaging center, or refer them to one, so we can confirm the extent of the injury.
