What to Bring to Urgent Care: A Quick Checklist

Heading to urgent care and not sure what to grab on the way out the door? Knowing what to bring to urgent care keeps your visit fast and gets you seen with everything we need in one trip. Here’s the short list — plus a few extras for kids and work-related visits.

[ What to Bring to Urgent Care]

What to Bring to Urgent Care: The Essentials

For a typical walk-in visit, pack these five things and you’re set:

•    Photo ID — a driver’s license or any photo ID so we can confirm who you are.

•    Insurance card — bring it if you have one. No insurance? That’s okay — just ask the front desk about self-pay options when you check in.

•    A list of your medications — names and doses of anything you take regularly, including vitamins and supplements. A photo of the bottles works too.

•    Your symptoms and timeline — be ready to say what’s going on, when it started, and what makes it better or worse. It helps the provider get to the right answer faster.

•    A payment method — a card or another way to cover any copay or self-pay portion at check-in.

What to Bring for a Child’s Visit

Bringing in a kiddo? A couple of extras make the visit smoother:

•    A parent or legal guardian, or a signed note giving permission if someone else is bringing the child.

•    Your child’s immunization records or a list of recent vaccines, if you have them handy.

•    Any recent temperature readings or notes on symptoms — when the fever started, how they’re eating and drinking, and so on.

What to Bring for a Work-Related or Occupational Medicine Visit

If you’re coming in for a work injury, a DOT physical, a drug screen, or another occupational medicine service bring the paperwork that keeps it moving:

•    Any authorization form or paperwork your employer gave you.

•    The name and contact info for your employer or the person handling the claim.

•    For a DOT physical: your glasses or contacts, a list of your medications, and any relevant medical history.

What You Don’t Need: An Appointment

Here’s the good news you don’t need to schedule anything. Every HealthCARE Express location is walk-in, so you can come in whenever it works for you. We see everyday illnesses and injuries at any of our 15 clinics every day, and having your ID, medication list, and symptom timeline ready is the single best way to keep your visit quick.

“When patients walk in with their ID, insurance card, and a quick list of their medications, check-in goes so much more smoothly — and they tend to feel a lot more prepared and at ease heading into their visit.”
  — Bailey Dodson, Director of First Impressions, HealthCARE Express
