Get (Apple) Saucy
Many children LOVE applesauce, especially the little ones. You may think applesauce is a healthy treat for them to eat, and while it is healthier than most snacks, most applesauce brands are LOADED with extra sugars. So, what’s a better alternative? Well… applesauce. Homemade applesauce, that is!
While making your own applesauce may sound like a huge undertaking, it’s a surprisingly simple task. All you need are 3lbs. of apples, ½ cup of water, ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon, a pot, and a blender!
To make applesauce, you must first slice and core the apples of your choice. We recommend using sweeter apples, such as Fuji or Gala. Once cut, place the apple slices, water, and cinnamon in a pot over medium heat. Cover the mixture and let it cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the apple slices are tender. Finally, pour the mixture into a blender and puree the apples into a sauce, and there you have it: homemade applesauce! Once cooled to room temperature, you can scoop the applesauce in small individual containers which can be stored in a refrigerator for up to a week!
